Dear Robert Jensen,

Thank you for your message - ok, I will try by e-mail - but still sooner or later I suggest we also talk since you are a very important user for us.

Yes, you can send us easyScan systems for service - send it to our adress in Langen/Germany. Normally we recommend to send full systems/scan head and electronics) in its transport suitcase, but if you only want to send scan heads and keep working with the rest of the system we can discuss that.

For the STM, as stated by my collegue beofre you can try to bend back the tip clamp yourself. If you take precautions against electrostatic discharge, you can open the lid of the scan head to do this. Please contact us if you have any question on this. If this does not work, we have to remove the print, remove the spring and re-mount it. This effectively costs the same a replacing the whole scan print. In that case you get a newer, improved version of the spring that holds the tip down - the new, improved version is shown in the attached foto, I think yours looks different. The cost for the STM print replacement is 810.- EUR.

For the AFMs, if the scanner is working, leave the cantilevers inside. If a cantilever is stuck in a place where the scanner stops working, you can not take it out without risk of damaging the scanner. If you wish, you can send in the AFM scanner for tip-removal and recalibration. The total cost for one AFM recalibration is 1.220.- EUR.

Obviously, if we would find other problems with a system you send we would suggest to fix that as well and tell you the cost for acceptance.

I sent e-mail yesterday to Jane Nielsen about pricing for STM tip wire and AFM cantilevers.

Best regards, Martin Schaefer
